Anglican Church of Southern Africa — Official Liturgical Resources
The following liturgies have been authorised by the Anglican Church of Southern Africa for experimental use in parishes. They are drawn from acsaliturgies.org and are provided here for easy access. Clergy are encouraged to familiarise themselves with each before introducing them into regular worship. PDF copies may be downloaded directly from this page.
These liturgies supplement — and do not replace — the authorised rites in the An Anglican Prayer Book 1989. They may be used at the discretion of the incumbent, in accordance with ACSA guidelines. Congregations should be prepared with appropriate introduction before new liturgical forms are used.
Midweek Eucharistic Prayer
ACSA Authorised — for experimental use
A simplified Eucharistic prayer suited to the rhythm of midweek worship, focusing on thanksgiving for God's presence in daily life. It recalls Christ's sacrifice and the Last Supper, and invites the congregation into the sacred meal as a source of spiritual nourishment for the working week. The Holy Spirit is called upon to bless both the elements and the gathered community.
When to use: Midweek Eucharists, small group celebrations, informal weekday services where a shorter, more meditative Eucharistic prayer is appropriate.
New Eucharistic Prayer
ACSA Authorised — for experimental use
A contemporary version of the traditional Eucharistic prayer, offering fresh language while preserving the essential structure of thanksgiving and remembrance. It acknowledges God's love in creation and Jesus' life, death, and resurrection, calling upon the Spirit to bless the bread and wine and unite the congregation in love, justice, and peace.
When to use: Sunday principal Eucharist where a contemporary liturgical register is desired; occasions of renewal, mission, or ecumenical worship.
Third Eucharistic Prayer (Revised)
ACSA Authorised — for experimental use
A reflective revision of the APB's Third Eucharistic Prayer, acknowledging God's holiness and creative power. It recalls Christ's self-giving love and invites the community to join angels and saints in worship. During the consecration it recalls the Last Supper, asks the Spirit to sanctify the gifts, and calls the community to unity and service.
When to use: Parishes familiar with the APB's Third Prayer wishing to introduce a revised form; Sundays with a strong trinitarian or doxological emphasis.
Creation Prayer
ACSA Authorised — adapted from the Season of Creation Eucharistic Prayer
Adapted from the Season of Creation Eucharistic Prayer. Focuses on the Biblical narratives that call us to celebrate the gift of creation, care for the earth, and work for the reconciliation of the whole of Creation. Particularly suited to Season of Creation observances (September–October) and environmental awareness Sundays.
When to use: Season of Creation (1 September – 4 October); Rogation Sundays; any occasion emphasising environmental stewardship and the theology of creation.
Family Eucharistic Prayer
ACSA Authorised — for experimental use
A child-friendly Eucharistic prayer that invites active participation from all ages, especially children. It combines traditional liturgical elements with simple, responsive dialogue that explains the significance of the meal. The prayer gives thanks for creation, Christ's life and sacrifice, and the presence of the Holy Spirit. It includes questions from youth to deepen understanding and concludes with the Lord's Prayer and a communal affirmation of faith.
When to use: Family services; all-age Eucharists; First Holy Communion services; any occasion where children and families are the primary congregation.
The Season of Creation — 1 September to 4 October
The Season of Creation is an ecumenical season of prayer and action for the care of our common home, observed by churches worldwide from 1 September (the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation) to 4 October (the Feast of St Francis of Assisi). ACSA encourages parishes to observe this season with special liturgies, educational programmes, and community action. Upload themed liturgy files and service orders for this season in the categories below.
The resources in this section are provided for Diocesan use and may be supplemented by materials from the Season of Creation website and from ACSA's Creation Prayer. Clergy are encouraged to upload any additional order-of-service PDFs, reflection guides, or homiletical notes here so that all parishes across the Diocese can access them.
